Frequently Asked Questions

How can I become a member of the Artists’ Association of Finland?

You can become a member of the Artists’ Association of Finland by joining one of the association’s professional artist unions. The unions are the Association of Finnish Sculptors, the Association of Finnish Printmakers, Finnish Painters’ Union, the Union of Artist Photographers and Artist Association MUU ry.

Through its member organisations, the association has 2,800 Finnish or Finland-based professional visual artists as its members. This accounts for the vast majority of professional visual artists in Finland.

The single most important criterion for membership in each of the five national visual artists’ unions is artistic competence. Artistic competence is assessed on the basis of pictures of artwork, exhibitions and competitions. Membership criteria, and the assembly deciding on the membership, vary between the organisations:

Artists' Association MUU
The Association of Finnish Sculptors
The Association of Finnish Printmakers
Finnish Painters’ Union
The Union of Artist Photographers
