The Artists’ Association of Finland invites Finnish visual artists and visual artists working in Finland to apply for the Åström studio stipends for the next three-year period May 1 2021 – April 30, 2024.

The application period is January 12 – February 1, 2021 at 5 pm.

The two stipend ateliers are located in the Vallila Studio Centre in Helsinki managed by The Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation. The ateliers are named after painters Werner and Helena Åström, who have donated the funds for the studio grants. The ateliers are meant for only working.

The stipendiaries are selected for a three-year period. Both stipends are equivalent to the worth of three-year rent costs of each studio. The stipendiaries are selected by the board of the Artists’ Association of Finland.

The 51 sqm Werner Åström atelje (Lemuntie 4 D 42) includes a water sink and a service elevator in the same floor. The height of the atelje is 4 m. In the 68 sqm Helena Åström atelje (Lemuntie 6 B 32) the water sink is located in the corridor and shared with other artists. There’s a passenger elevator in the same floor. The height of the studio is 3 metres.

Considered in the evaluation of applicants: Professional and active work as a visual artist; current studio or working space situation; the need for a studio; upcoming exhibitions and other artistic projects. The ateliers can be applied also as a working group together with other artist(s).

Applications are submitted by using the online application form:

The stipendiary commits to work in the Åström atelier for the whole three-year period without lengthy (over six-month) working periods abroad.

Send your application by Monday, February 1, 2021 at 5 pm.
