The Artists' Association of Finland will reopen its legal advice service on August 26, 2025, but in a more limited form than before. The legal advice service is made possible by joint funding from the Artists' Association of Finland and its four member associations: Artists' Association MUU, the Association of Finnish Sculptors, the Association of Finnish Printmakers, and The Association of Photographic Artists. The service is available to members of these associations.
The Artists' Association of Finland will once again offer limited legal advice starting on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Earlier this year, the legal advice service had to be discontinued due to budget cuts in the cultural sector affecting the association.
The legal advice service has been made possible again through joint funding from the Artists' Association of Finland and its four member associations: Artists' Association MUU, the Association of Finnish Sculptors, the Association of Finnish Printmakers, and The Association of Photographic Artists. The service will be available until at least the end of 2025.
Legal advice is intended for members of Artists' Association MUU, the Association of Finnish Sculptors, the Association of Finnish Printmakers, and The Association of Photographic Artists, which are involved in financing the service. Member artists of the Finnish Painters' Union can continue to contact the Finnish Painters' Union for legal advice.
In addition to its own service, the Artists' Association of Finland has agreed on partnerships with law firms familiar with legal issues in the cultural sector, from which members of all member associations of the Artists' Association can obtain services at reduced rates (15%–20% discount).
The legal advisor will work at the Artists' Association of Finland 20% of the time, i.e. one day a week. The service focuses on proactive advice, and the service time per visual artist is limited.
- The discontinuation of legal advice services due cuts was a serious blow to our sector. It is wonderful that we are able to join forces with four member associations to combine our resources and respond to the needs of artists in this exceptional situation. The arrangement will remain in place until the end of the year, but we at the Artists' Association will strive to continue providing small-scale advice and supplementary support through partnerships with law firms, says Annukka Vähäsöyrinki, director of the Artists' Association.
More detailed information about the legal advice services, call hours, and law firm partnerships will be provided later in August.
