Artists’ Association of Finland invites Finnish visual artists and visual artists working in Finland to apply for the Åström studio grants for the next three-year period May 1 2024 – April 30, 2027. The application period is December 11, 2023 – January 11, 2024.

The two studios are located in the Vallila Studio Centre in Helsinki which is managed by The Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation. The studios are named after the painters Werner and Helena Åström, who donated the funds for the studio grants. The studios are for working only.

The stipendiaries are selected for a period of three years. Both stipends are equivalent to the cost of renting a studio for three years. The stipend holders are selected by the Board of the Artists’ Association of Finland.

The 51 m2 Werner Åström atelje (Lemuntie 4 D 42) has a water sink and a service lift on the same floor. The height of the studio is 4 metres. In the 68 m2 Helena Åström atelje (Lemuntie 6 B 32) the water sink is in the corridor and is shared with other artists. There's a passenger lift on the same floor. The studio is 3 metres high.

Will be considered in the evaluation of applicants: Professional and active work as a visual artist; current studio or workspace situation; studio needs; upcoming exhibitions and other artistic projects. Studios can also be applied for as a working group with other artist(s).

The stipendiary undertakes to work in the Åström atelier for the whole three-year period without lengthy (over six-month) working periods abroad.
